Extend DCAS Civil Service List #7001 in NYC for 5 More Months

Extend DCAS Civil Service List #7001 in NYC for 5 More Months
The Issue
We are qualified candidates currently in the intake process for the FDNY, and like many others, We are facing an unexpected challenge. Due to the disruptions caused by COVID-19, Civil Service List #7001 is set to expire before I and many others can complete the necessary processing steps. The pandemic caused significant delays in the hiring process, making it impossible for candidates to proceed as initially scheduled, and now this oversight threatens to derail our hard-earned progress.
COVID-19 halted the hiring process for civil service candidates on List #7001 when the CPAT administration process was abruptly stopped in March 2020. It wasn't until November 2022, a FULL 2 years and 8 months later, that the process resumed. This delay significantly affected our four-year active list, nearly eliminating any chance for timely processing. While DCAS did extend the list by 2 years and 3 months from the original expiration date, this extension does not fully account for the time lost due to pandemic-related interruptions.
We are petitioning for an additional extension of five months to align with the total period of delay caused by the pandemic. This extension would ensure fair treatment for all candidates who have diligently completed every step up to this point. It's crucial for individuals like myself, and many others who have been affected, to have a fair shot at progressing in our careers and serving our community.
Extending the list will not only correct an inequitable situation but will reaffirm confidence in the system that we depend upon for fairness and justice. We urge DCAS and decision-makers involved to consider this request seriously and act in favor of fairness and opportunity for all qualified candidates on List #7001.
Please join us in calling for this extension to ensure that all dedicated candidates can finish what they started and contribute to the safety and well-being of New York City. Sign this petition and help us right this wrong.
