Extend Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre Pool Hours to 10 PM
The issue
We, the undersigned residents and users of the Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre in Keilor Downs, call on Brimbank City Council to extend the pool’s operating hours from 8:30 PM to 10:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
Right now, the aquatic facilities—including the Lap pool, warm water pool, spa, steam room, and sauna—close at 8:30 PM, while nearby centres like Keilor East Leisure Centre and Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre stay open until 10 PM, and Ascot Vale Leisure Centre operates until 10 PM or even 11 PM.
This change would bring our centre in line with regional standards and meet community needs.
Many of us finish work late, often after 5:00 PM, leaving little time to enjoy the pool—especially for those hitting the gym first. The centre’s 24-hour gym access is great, but the pool’s early closure cuts our ability to fully use this top-tier facility. Extending hours to 10:00 PM would let working residents swim, unwind, and stay active.
This makes sense financially too. With a reported earning surplus in the 2023/2024 annual report, the centre can afford to stay open later, and extended hours would mean more shifts for staff, boosting local jobs.
Additionally, with the new Plumpton Aquatic and Leisure Centre set to open in Fraser Rise—just 15 minutes away—in early 2028, featuring indoor pools, water slides, spas, and more, Brimbank needs to act now to retain members.
Offering later hours could keep our Keilor Downs community loyal to our centre instead of losing them to this shiny new competitor.
Pool users constantly say 8:30 PM is not late enough. When Keilor East, Maribyrnong, and Ascot Vale offer 10 PM or later, why can’t Brimbank?
Let’s make our centre truly accessible and competitive for all.
We urge the council to extend pool hours to 10:00 PM.
Thank you for hearing us out.
Sincerely,
Nick Abregu and the Brimbank Community
