The Bereavement Support Payment (BSP) is available to spouses and civil partners when a partner dies, this makes the assumption that everyone who passes away was in a relationship and their next of kin is always a partner. This is discriminatory and unjust. Next of kin can be a son, a daughter, a brother, a sister, and the list goes on.

The BSP needs to be inclusive of all next of kin, regardless of their relationship to the loved one they have lost.

Having lost my lovely Mum to cancer last year I know firsthand how difficult grief is, the impact it has on your mental health and how intense things can be with financial difficulties thrown in the mix. Suffering a bereavement is difficult to navigate, and it's important that those left behind are given the support they need to cope with their loss.

Please sign this petition calling on the Government to recognise this inequality and take action by extending the Bereavement Support Payment to all next of kin.
