Extend Aldridge Creek Greenway in Huntsville, AL

Extend Aldridge Creek Greenway in Huntsville, AL
The Issue
Living in the Great Bend subdivision on Railway Ln, I frequently bike several times a week from our community's exit along Hobbs Island Road to where the greenway begins at the Whitesburg Marina. This stretch of road is not just bustling with activity, but it's often perilously crowded with traffic often exceeding speed limits. This naturally raises significant safety concerns for pedestrians and cyclists like myself who use this route regularly.
The proposed extension of the Aldridge Creek greenway, spanning approximately 1.5 miles along the south side of Hobbs Island Road to meet with Butler Basin Blvd, is crucial in addressing these safety concerns. The extension will bolster pedestrian and cyclist safety by providing an alternate route, significantly decreasing the risks associated with navigating the heavily trafficked Hobbs Island Road.
Moreover, this extension will enhance accessibility and connectivity between our neighboring residential areas and the Ditto Marina multi-use facility currently under construction at the State Docks. It will be instrumental in facilitating seamless and safe travel to the marina, encouraging outdoor activity and fostering a healthier community spirit.
Not only will this greenway extension improve safety and accessibility, it also aligns with Huntsville’s broader vision for sustainable city planning and community well-being. By extending the greenway, we will be taking a step toward a more pedestrian-friendly environment, reducing congestion on our roads, and promoting an eco-friendly means of travel.
I urge the City of Huntsville, AL, to consider this extension as a priority project. The benefits of such a move are manifold – improved safety, better connectivity, and enhanced community well-being. Please lend your support to this cause and sign this petition to advocate for the extension of the Aldridge Creek greenway. Together, we can make our community safer and more connected for everyone.
