For years, my son, who has an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for mental and behavioral disabilities, has faced relentless bullying by administrators and teachers within the Stephens County School System. Not only has he been bullied and provoked, but there has also been a systematic failure to provide necessary accommodations for his disabilities. This failure exposes a broader issue of corruption and inadequacy that endangers the welfare of all children within our community.

Systemic bullying by those in power should never be tolerated, yet it appears to be a central issue plaguing our schools. Despite countless efforts to address these grievances through appropriate channels, little has been done to enact change or hold the responsible parties accountable. Too many families have suffered in silence, feeling isolated and powerless against those they trusted to protect and educate their children.

It is not just about individual cases. Across Toccoa, GA, there is a pervasive pattern of neglecting civil rights, particularly for students in special education. This systematic failure violates the laws meant to protect our children, resulting in a compromised educational environment where bullying is endemic rather than rare.

We must hold those accountable to a higher standard, and ensure full transparency and adherence to lawful educational practices.
