Expel Representative Andrew Farmer

Expel Representative Andrew Farmer
The Issue
On March 26, 2025, in a session for the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee, Representative Justin Pearson (D-Memphis) was speaking as the primary sponsor of HB 1392 (Firearms and Ammunition). During this time, Representative Andrew Farmer (R-Sevierville) chided Pearson for his absence and willfully provoked him by stating that Pearson's caring for his family after the suicide of his brother Timphrance Pearson was no excuse for being absent. Mr. Pearson became emotional, as any grieving human, and after the bill was rejected, Mr. Pearson approached close to Mr. Farmer and pointed at him before being restrained. As Mr. Farmer got up to leave, Mr. Pearson exclaimed, "Don't you ever come after me and my family."
This is vile for someone, a state representative no less, to provoke the ire and grief of another man in such a way. Furthermore, it speaks to Mr. Farmer's personal character, and his behavior was intentional and revolting. It is not Christlike. It is not Tennessean. It is not American.
Representatives Pearson and Jones were expelled two years ago for "lack of decorum," the use of a bullhorn on the House floor while supporters of gun reform crowded the galleries, and returned per the will of their own constituents. Representative Farmer cannot be allowed to speak to his colleagues in such a disgusting manner and remain in his seat. To say his actions constitute a lack of decorum is a gross understatement. Mr. Pearson will likely receive a reprimand for his own behavior, yet we can surely empathize with his profound grief. Beyond this, he ought to receive our deepest respect and greatest admiration for ensuring his family is cared for after the death of his brother due to suicide. I ask that you sign this petition, and call and email your representatives to demand the expulsion of Representative Andrew Farmer for his disrespectful, unbecoming conduct towards his colleague, and a public apology from him to Representative Pearson and his family.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." - Matthew 11:28, NIV
"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." - Matthew 5:4, NIV
"Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand. What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.” - Matthew 15:10-11, NIV
