Clarification: Deuce is “removed” as he is off the football team and banned from campus. He is not expelled.

Yesterday, April 11th, in a statement to Buffzone regarding various inquiries about the football team, CU said “Deuce Roberson is no longer with the football team. In accordance with privacy laws, we are unable to comment further." According to CUPD, he is also banned from all areas of campus since late February. A university spokesperson confirmed he is still enrolled as a student but at least he can’t be physically close to other CU students at the school.

This is a huge win for all the victims of Deuce already on campus and for all the girls who could’ve easily been victimized by him if CU didn’t come to their senses. Boulder has set a great example for how sexual assault should NEVER be tolerated, even if it’s by a “highly touted Christian athlete”.

I have serious doubts that El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will investigate any allegations despite multiple women like me directly trying to work with them. District 38 still won’t release documents regarding any sexual assault beyond a year ago, in violation of the Colorado Open Records Act if they have such records which they absolutely should according to district policy- the default time limit suggested by the Uniform Records Retention Act of maintaining electronic records is 3 years, and also the district policy that explicitly states the district must maintain any informal or formal records/communications regarding sexual harassment for a time period of seven years. However, I have lots of hope for D38. I believe the current leadership genuinely cares about preventing this issue in the future even if they won’t take accountability for previous misconduct. People like trauma-based therapist Amber Newberry are working with LPHS, LPMS, and hopefully PRHS to teach consent. I plan to speak at the next school board meeting on Monday, April 17th at 6PM to urge administrators to take this issue more seriously going forward, and to adjust victim-blaming policies.

Thank you to everyone who has spoken out here or on social media, shared this petition or the articles, or spread this through word of mouth. I can’t thank you brave people enough.
