District 38 needs to be held accountable for their apathetic neglect of sexual harassment victims for years in favor of maintaining a reputation of athletic/academic excellence. While the current staff claim leadership has changed, the people who covered up Deuce’s behavior are not all gone and records I obtained from the past year confirm that there is still misconduct of the district in reporting, investigating, following up, and supporting victims of sexual assault happening today. Our students, especially our girls, are far from safe in a district that won’t even release the communications about sexual harassment they are required to store for seven years. Deuce Roberson was directly enabled by Palmer Ridge High School and the D38 administrators, as were dozens of other sexual predators both in the past and at present. This could have ended literally five years ago if people took victims seriously. The rape culture in D38 needs to be addressed and changed, not dismissed by cowardly administrators who care more about their salaries than the wellbeing of thousands of young people.
