Expedite the Renewal Process for Irish Residence Permits

The Issue

My spouse, a dedicated nurse serving in a hospital in County Cork, Ireland, is currently without a valid Irish Residence Permit (IRP). Despite applying 8 to 6 weeks prior to its expiry, we are still awaiting an appointment for renewal. This situation is not unique to us but affects many international immigrants residing in Ireland.

The current process of renewing IRPs takes approximately 4 to 6 months after application. This prolonged waiting period leaves skilled international workers like my wife without legal documentation. It hampers their ability to work and contributes significantly towards uncertainty and anxiety among employers.

Furthermore, this delay also impacts future citizenship applications and disrupts the lives of those contributing positively towards Irish society. According to data from the Central Statistics Office Ireland (CSO), as of April 2021 there were over 120,000 non-EU nationals living in Ireland who could potentially be affected by this issue.

We urge the government to streamline faster or online appointments for IRP renewals. A more efficient system will not only reduce stress among immigrants but also ensure that they can continue contributing their skills uninterrupted.

Please sign this petition urging our government officials in Cork City and County Cork at large to expedite the renewal process for IRPs so that hardworking immigrants like my wife can continue serving our community with peace of mind.
