Dear Community Members,

It's been over two years since the City of Austin approved the installation of a vital pedestrian signal at the intersection of LAMAR BLVD / LITTLE OAK DR. With the intersection heavily utilized as a pedestrian park-and-walk area, the necessity for a safe crossing is paramount, specifically in the vicinity of North Austin Muslim Community Center (NAMCC), Brentwood Christian School, apartments and bus stops. Shockingly, the signal has been ready for design this entire time, yet construction has not begun. Please join us in signing this petition requesting the City of Austin to expedite the construction of the pedestrian signal.

Background:

The intersection of Lamar Blvd and Little Oak Dr has become a focal point for pedestrian traffic in our neighborhood. With numerous apartment buildings, community centers, schools, bus stops, and business, pedestrian rely heavily on crossings as well as park-and-walk of N. Lamar Blvd (45 MPH traffic speed). Unfortunately, the current infrastructure fails to provide adequate provisions for pedestrian safety, leading to hazardous practices like mid-block crossings and risking safety before intersections.

Appeal to City of Austin:

We urgently request the city to expedite the installation of the pre-approved pedestrian signal at Lamar Blvd and Little Oak Dr. This crosswalk is essential for improving pedestrian safety and meeting the growing demand for safer road crossings. Additionally, enhancing lighting along the road would significantly reduce risks, especially during nighttime crossings.
