The Issue

My mother and I have called the same property our home for over a decade. In all these years, we've never missed a rent payment. We've put in a lot of care into our home — recently having the entire property painted and ensuring the property is perfect. Both the estate agents and landlords have emphasised that we are the perfect tenants, which has thankfully secured us a long lease. However, despite this, we now face eviction, not due to any fault of our own but because our landlord wants to rent the property to someone else. With the current housing market, the prospect of affording another place seems almost impossible. We both work for the NHS. Serving our community and surrounding area with nothing but respect and care. I struggle with health conditions and the stress of all of this has taken a strain on me personally. However I have still maintained a full time job and tried to carry on as normal as possible. We have two indoor cats who must stay inside of health issues. They have never done any damage to the property and the landlords are more than happy for them to be here. However looking at more other rentals they do not allow pets. Making it really hard to find somewhere to move to.

This is not just our struggle; many others across the UK are facing similar situations. Section 21 'no-fault' evictions allow landlords to remove tenants without providing any concrete reason. This law not only threatens the stability of families but also creates an atmosphere of fear where even the most diligent tenants risk losing their homes. In our village alone there have been 7 section 21s served in the last 12 months that we know of. All long term renters like us.

The government pledged to abolish Section 21, yet the process is slow. Meanwhile, thousands of lives are being upended. It's time for urgent action. We need to expedite the abolishment of Section 21 and reverse any evictions served before October 2024. This will safeguard countless families who deserve security in their homes.

Statistics show that nearly 50,000 households in the UK have faced no-fault evictions recently, with numbers rising each year. The emotional and financial toll this takes on individuals and families cannot be understated. It is essential that the government acts swiftly, protecting tenants who maintain and improve the properties they live in.

Landlords must be encouraged to foster relationships with their tenants, ensuring that both parties benefit from clear, fair agreements. Revoking Section 21 will not only provide security for renters but also cultivate trust in the rental market.

Please sign this petition to demand immediate government action and protect homes across the UK. Let's stand together for fairness and stability in housing.
