We, the undersigned students of the University of Cincinnati, petition for the expansion and extension of UC Shuttle routes operated through the Office of Transportation Services.

The UC Shuttle program is an essential service that provides free and safe transportation for students, staff and facility. It allows them to navigate between the Cincinnati area, whether that be Uptown Campus West, Blue Ash, or moving through Clifton. However, many students who live in surrounding off-campus areas currently remain underserved by the existing routes and schedules. Limited coverage and route hours make it difficult for some students, especially those without personal vehicles, to commute safely and efficiently to and from campus, particularly during early morning or late-night classes.

Transportation is an issue several students face, and a major hindrance to academic success. If the University of Cincinnati extends the shuttle routes and hours of the shuttle program it will provide a safe way of transportation for all, especially at night. It will also reduce the financial strain on those who don’t have the funds to put toward a personal vehicle or gas. This could also help reduce traffic around the campus making the roads safer and more efficient. This could also raise morale around campus with the student not having to worry about getting around safely, they can put more energy into their studies. This also aligns with the University of Cincinnati’s mission, which is:

By extending shuttle routes and operating hours, UC can further this mission by removing barriers to accessibility and ensuring equitable transportation for all students, regardless of financial or housing circumstances. 

We urge the university to consider this proposal and take steps to expand UC Shuttle services in a way that meets the needs of the entire Bearcat community.
