Expand Transitional Housing in Dallas
The Issue
Expand Transitional Housing in Dallas
Not long ago, I was homeless in Dallas.
Every day, I was trying to figure out where I was going to sleep while also trying to work, create content, and build a better future for myself. People often assume that if you’re homeless, you just need to “go to a shelter.” The reality is much more complicated.
I called 2-1-1. I searched for resources. I waited. I learned that many programs were already full, had long waitlists, or weren’t the right fit for my situation. The people working in these programs genuinely wanted to help, but there simply weren’t enough resources to meet the need.
What changed my life wasn’t just having a roof over my head—it was finding transitional housing. Having a stable place to stay gave me the opportunity to focus on rebuilding my life instead of just surviving each day.
The problem is that too many people in Dallas never get that opportunity. There aren’t enough transitional housing options, and many people have to travel across the city or wait far too long for an opening.
I’m asking the Dallas City Council and local leaders to invest in expanding transitional housing so more people have a real chance to get back on their feet.
This isn’t about giving people handouts. It’s about giving people an opportunity. When someone has stability, they’re better able to work, save money, improve their mental health, and move toward permanent housing.
I know this because I lived it.
If you believe everyone deserves a fair chance to rebuild their life, please sign this petition and share it with others. Together, we can help make transitional housing more accessible for the people who need it most.
