Expand the NY Cannabis Growers Showcase (CGS)
The Issue
Cannabis Growers Showcases (CGS) are a unique part of the NY cannabis economy and it was an idea born out of the community. The showcases are a vital supply chain mechanism built to support farmers across the State and are a reflection of the entrepreneurial DNA that is intrinsic to the New York small business economy. The Empire State is home to all kinds of markets, including fashion, capital, technology, arts/culture, agriculture and the list goes on and on.
Buying local is not just about enjoying high-quality products; it’s about supporting our communities and local economies. When consumers buy local cannabis, they directly contribute to the success of local farmers who have invested their time, energy, and resources to provide the best possible product. Additionally, buying local reduces the carbon footprint associated with long-distance transportation, aligning with sustainable practices. It’s a win-win—consumers get exceptional products while nurturing local businesses and promoting sustainability.
As of today, the showcases are slated to end on January 1st 2024. This would be detrimental to so many small businesses along the supply chain who have experienced some economic relief through these showcases. From August-October of 2023, the showcases generated $1.5 million in revenue, providing New Yorkers with access to safe, regulated cannabis.
Sign this petition today and send a message to the New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM), to extend the growers showcases until December 31, 2025, in an effort to support this emerging market and the small business owners that rely on these showcases as a retail outlet.
