Expand Boat Dock Parking on Pigeon Lake Side of Bobcaygeon

Expand Boat Dock Parking on Pigeon Lake Side of Bobcaygeon
The Issue
Bobcaygeon is one of Ontario’s most popular cottage country destinations, drawing thousands of boaters each summer to its shops, restaurants, and waterfront. However, boat parking on the Pigeon Lake side is extremely limited, making it difficult for boaters to stop and enjoy what our town has to offer.
The Pigeon, Buckhorn, Chemong, and Bald Lake system is the largest interconnected lake system in the Kawarthas without needing locks, making it a prime boating destination that needs proper dock infrastructure.
Every summer, we see:
- Boat congestion near the locks and waterfront businesses.
- Visitors are forced to leave without stopping because there’s nowhere to dock.
- Lost revenue for local restaurants, shops, and tourism operators.
We are calling on the City of Kawartha Lakes, along with the Trent Severn Waterway, to help the community:
- Expand municipal dock parking on the Pigeon Lake side of Bobcaygeon.
- Prioritize infrastructure improvements that support boaters, residents, and local businesses.
- Keep Bobcaygeon accessible and welcoming to visitors arriving by water.
Why this matters:
- Supports our small businesses that rely on boat traffic during their busiest months in the summer.
- Enhances safety by reducing boat congestion near busy lock channels.
- Makes Bobcaygeon an even better destination for residents and tourists.
Here are some real quotes from local boaters when mentioning more boat docks on the Pigeon side:
"We stopped boating into town altogether because of the lack of docking. We would love to boat in for dinner more often and would if the facilities were better!"
"Yes please. We basically don't go into town on the boat anymore because of this."
"Bobcaygeon for sure has a bottleneck of a lack of boat parking on the Pigeon side. There is always uncertainty if there will be parking or not."
Please sign this initiative to show city officials that expanded dock parking is urgently needed to keep our waterfront thriving.
