Expand and Secure the Afordable Connectivity Program for Navajo Nation

Expand and Secure the Afordable Connectivity Program for Navajo Nation
The Issue
I am part of the Digital Equity Initiative Effort, a program from the Navajo Nation to improve Broadband access to the Navajo People and it is with great urgency that I bring to your attention a matter of critical importance to our community. The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) has been an invaluable resource for thousands of tribal families, including my own. In these challenging times, where internet connectivity has become more crucial than ever due to COVID-19 and remote learning needs, ACP has served as a lifeline.
However, we face significant digital inequity issues as a Tribal nation. Despite the benefits of ACP, many families still struggle with reliable access to online resources necessary for education and work. According to data from the American Community Survey (ACS), approximately 35% of households on tribal lands do not have access to fixed broadband service.
The continuation and expansion of ACP are vital in addressing this digital divide within our community. We must ensure that every family in our tribe can benefit from this program's potential – not just those who currently have access.
We call upon policymakers at all levels - local, state, federal - to recognize the importance of this issue and take immediate action towards expanding and securing ACP for Navajo Nation families. Your support can make a significant difference in improving educational outcomes and economic opportunities for our people.
Please sign this petition today; let us stand together in advocating for equal digital opportunities within Navajo Nation through strengthening the Affordable Connectivity Program.
