Expand and Enhance the Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park Into a Comprehensive Sports Complex

The Issue

As a native of Englewood, Florida, and a proud alum of Lemon Bay High School, class of 1992, I have seen the potential of our town to thrive through the unifying power of sports. Having retired from a distinguished 23-year career in the military in 2017, my commitment to promoting community health and economic development has never been stronger. This is why I am excited to propose the development of a state-of-the-art Sports Complex right here in my hometown.

This initiative is deeply personal to me. Growing up in Englewood, I experienced how sports can elevate a community, fostering unity and inspiring its members. This proposed Sports Complex at the Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park Recreation Center will do just that. It aims not only to enhance local talent and stimulate economic growth but also to provide a vibrant space where our youth and residents can compete, grow, and excel. This complex embodies the essence of what it means to be a community.

The plan includes a variety of sports facilities such as fields for football, baseball, softball, soccer, and tracks for athletics, alongside courts for volleyball and basketball. It also features health and wellness centers to promote a healthier lifestyle for everyone in our community.

The complex will provide athletes with a dedicated platform to showcase their talents to college scouts, professional recruiters, and sports agents, creating unmatched opportunities for career development. Educational programs on site will include classes on sportsmanship, goal setting, nutrition, fitness, injury prevention, leadership, and other athlete developmental programs.

The benefits of expanding our park into a comprehensive sports complex are clear. Research from the Aspen Institute shows that communities with better access to sports facilities see marked improvements in health and well-being. Additionally, the Economic Policy Institute reports that such investments can drive significant economic returns.

This is a call to action for everyone who believes in a healthier, more vibrant Englewood. By signing this petition, you are not just supporting a project; you are fostering a legacy for future generations to lead active, engaged lives. Join me in advocating for this transformative project. Let's urge our town officials to back this vision and move forward with the expansion and enhancement of the Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park into a full-fledged Sports Complex. Sign the petition today to make a lasting impact on our community.
