Expand Access to CDBG Funds for Non-affiliated Nonprofits in Rock Hill

The Issue

Our community of Rock Hill has a number of organizations working tirelessly to bring about change and make lives better. However, funds limitations often act as a stumbling block, hindering their progress. The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is a potential funding source that can provide significant support. Unfortunately, as it currently stands, only City of Rock Hill affiliated organizations have access.

This exclusion of non-affiliated nonprofits and community partners from these critical resources undermines the equitable growth of our community. The change we request is an expansion of access such that non-city or non-Rock Hill affiliated organizations can also benefit from the CDBG funds.

It is worthy to note that CDBG funds have transformed many communities across America since its inception in 1974 (source: HUD). By their impact scope, these funds have the potential to reshape Rock Hill, but the current narrow terms of access limit their overall effectiveness.

We, therefore, call upon the City of Rock Hill to reassess their policy regarding the distribution of CDBG funds. This action, undoubtedly, would provide an equitable platform for all organizations, thus fostering comprehensive community development.
