Excuse Student Absences During Bed Bug Outbreaks

The Issue

As parents, we never envisioned a scenario where our children would be exposed to such unfavorable conditions. Our children do not deserve to have to sit in school amidst an active bed bug outbreak. We are raising this issue to ensure the wellbeing and continued education of our children.

Bed bugs are small, elusive parasites that feed on warm-blooded animals, particularly humans. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), bed bugs can thrive anywhere in the home, making them hard to control once an infestation gets extensive. They are not only nuisances but also pose health risks ranging from skin rashes to allergic reactions (source: Mayo Clinic).

Recently our local school reported a bed bug outbreak, putting the health and safety of our children at risk. Despite the circumstances, students are still expected to attend school, risking their health and contributing to the spread of the bed bugs. Evidence from many health departments worldwide suggests that absences due to infestations assist in controlling the spread (source: World Health Organization).

We're urging the school board and education department to take this matter seriously by allowing the absences of students during this period to be excused. This approach could prevent further infestations and protect our children's health. Please support us in this important cause by signing our petition.

I think that was a great petition and believe the principal can make that decision. I'm not sure, but I believe an excuse is valid.
