The Issue

As a customs broker, I've witnessed firsthand the struggles that many of my customers face due to the tariffs imposed on fireworks. These hardworking individuals, who provide entertainment and joy during celebrations, find themselves in a financial bind because they have no alternative sources for their products—fireworks can only be imported from China.

The current tariffs, intended to protect domestic industries, are inadvertently harming local businesses that rely on fireworks sales. Given the unique nature of the fireworks industry, these products cannot be manufactured domestically. Consequently, the tariffs are not protecting any American jobs; instead, they are causing financial hardship for those involved in the import and distribution of fireworks.

The fireworks industry plays a significant role in cultural and celebratory activities in the United States, from Independence Day to New Year celebrations, spreading joy to millions across the country. The burden of tariffs not only affects businesses but also diminishes the quality and quantity of celebrations that are an integral part of our national identity.

To alleviate this undue hardship, we propose that the President reevaluates the tariff policy specifically concerning fireworks. An exclusion of fireworks from these tariffs would provide much-needed relief to those who are vital in bringing festivities to life across America.

We urge the President to recognize the unique challenges faced by the fireworks industry and to act swiftly in supporting these businesses by excluding fireworks from the tariffs.
