Sex workers’ war against social medias

The Issue

Since the beginning of the pandemic, sex workers have been using online platforms to do their work and express themselves, and this became a safer way for us to do our work. Unfortunately, we do need to promote our work and art a lot, and the only way to do this is through social medias. Instagram is one big social media platform that allows us to promote and reach thousands of people... yet Instagram has started a war against people, and soon, pictures that even depict people at the beach will become too much, which will greatly affect sex workers as our brand will basically be shut down. This will not just affect us, but also lingerie and underwear businesses. Anything that shows “too much” skin will be erased. We know nudity is prohibited and we respect that, but we are asking people to find another way to “protect” young communities instead of shutting down “lewd” accounts on social media. We cannot even post swimwear photos anymore. With all the censorship, let’s not get back to the 1950’s again! Help me make a difference and tell those people that sex work has become a huge industry and have grown a lot online due to the pandemic, and that is a safer way to work. We too need to survive.
