By ensuring that social media can only be used by responsible people who have provided a form of ID, we can hold people accountable for what is written on social media. It’s not difficult to upload an image of your drivers license or passport on a smart phone, and I propose that all social media follow this, shutting down any accounts that haven’t been verified by ID by 2021, giving people 2 months to upload. This will stop a lot of people hiding behind their keyboards and writing some of the disgusting filth that is splashed across social media and is now, unbelievably, considered almost normal, and brushed under the carpet as ‘keyboard warriors’. This is not right, this is easily fixed, and will reduce the number of hate crimes committed every single day significantly. So much of what goes on within social media would be considered illegal on the street that it is a mystery as to why something hasn’t been done about this a long time ago. It needs to end now, racism, homophobia, all of it, and this would be a step in the right direction. I offer my own drivers license and passport to Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter, all of which I use, and will be held accountable for everything I post. I know all the decent people in this country will follow suit. Too long have we let these people get away with it, it’s time to do the right thing
