Help Put A Stop To Animal Homelessness!

The Issue

Homelessness in America not only affects people but animals too and by far the worst. Pet overpopulation is one of the biggest reasons for animal homelessness. According to the Humane Society of the United States, there are around 70 million stray animals in the U.S. and of those 70 million, only 6-8 million enter shelters. From these 6-8 million that enter shelters, roughly 2 million are adopted which means the remaining are euthanized due to lack of space and adopters. That's roughly 80,000 a month, 5,500 a week! The question remains, why are we breeding more animals when there are already so many in desperate need of homes? These animals need just as much love and attention as we do. It is our responsibility to care for and nurture our furry friends.

So, how can we help? Unfortunately, this is not an issue that can be resolved overnight but, there are things we can do to minimize the numbers and ultimately put an end to animal homelessness. The first step would be for our city/ govt. officials to enact a spaying/ neutering law. This will help control the pet population, amongst other beneficial things for you and your pet like being more well- behaved, not going into heat and living a much longer and healthier life. Many non-profit organizations such as ASPCA, The Lucy Pet Foundation, and SNP LA provide free services for our pets. Furthermore, instead of breeding our animals, opt to adopt not shop. Say no to animal breeders and vendors! Help ban the breeding and sale of animals throughout America. Take a drive down to your local shelter and get to know many of the lovely animals in need of a home who are desperately waiting for someone to love. Lastly, if you have a pet who for whatever reason you can no longer care for, the last thing you want to do is be part of the problem. Don't abandon your pet out on the streets! Do the humane thing and try to find it a home. If unsuccessful, then call your local shelters. The last thing you want to do is maximize their suffering by throwing them out on the streets where they will suffer from starvation, risk getting sick and even killed! They don't have money or the ability to search for help on their own, they need our help and we owe it to them for the support, joy, and loyalty they bring to our lives.

Sign my petition and help make a difference. By doing so, we will urge our city and govt officials to enact a mandatory spaying/neutering law for all our pets as well as shutting down breeders and vendors, and help in funding shelters in order to expand and provide a temporary home to our homeless animals. No more euthanizing due to lack of space or abandonment! These innocent creations shouldn't have to suffer because of our irresponsibility. Every life matters and they too have feelings. Don't take away their right to live. The power to end animal homelessness is in our hands, will you help?
