End Toxic Masculinity

End Toxic Masculinity
The Issue
Through many cultures, men feel the pressure to act, think, feel and look a certain way. Traditional norms have been imposed for men in society creating an image of how a “man” should be. Toughness, aggressiveness and dominance are few characteristics the public expects from a man. This has created many harmful effects in society creating a wrongful image that men must fulfill. For example, the “perfect” man must be muscular, tough, not sensitive and must fulfill a “manly” job such as construction working, landscaping, mechanics, etc. and is seen as feminine or weak when working in other jobs. The unreasonable expectations limit men from feeling and acting the way they want. Many stereotypes surrounding men and women have been reinforced by society’s beliefs of how a “man” and a “woman” should act. Toxic masculinity also threatens women’s positions in the population and further reinforces gender inequality because of the way society has taught men to act with women. This issue targets and harms everyone regardless of gender, race, or socioeconomic status and it's our duty as members of this society to raise awareness about this social injustice and take actions to make the changes we deserve.
