Every pet deserves a way home

The Issue

Every year thousands of cats go missing.

Most of them are microchipped. Most of them are never found.

Why?

Because microchips don't track locations. They only work if someone finds your pet and scans them.

Imagine your cat lost, scared, hiding and no-one knows where to look.

If you've ever loved and lost a pet, you understand.

A local case highlights this problem: Logan, a very loved cat from Dyers Close Braunton, went missing despite being microchipped. With exhausted efforts and expense by his family - posters, local social media groups as well as contacting vets and the cats protection, Logan arrived home two weeks later. Very lucky some might say, not all cats return/are found. A visit to the vets concluded he had been dealt a blow to the jaw, resulting in a broken tooth, was very thin and displayed signs of trying to escape from somewhere with trauma to his front paws, jaw, face and whiskers.

Stories like Logan's are all too common and they illustrate the limitations of the current system.

We already have technology that can help, GPS tracking devices for pets. These devices can help owners locate missing animals quickly and safely. However, they are not standardised, often expensive and are not intergrated into national microchip databases.

I am launching a campaign to modernise pet safety and I am asking for your support. I will be emailing DEFRA and my local MP to help with this.
