Every child deserves to eat

Every child deserves to eat
The Issue
When my son was just six years old, he took some money from our vacation savings over time. Why? To help his friends at school who didn't have anything to eat or who only had a simple peanut butter and jelly sandwich from home. 22 years later remembering him take such compassionate action and Now, with the skyrocketing cost of food, the situation has only worsened. We have a massive issue in our society and children during school are suffering.
Every child, from preschool through 12th grade, deserves a nutritious school breakfast and lunch without the burden of forms or qualifications. If we can feed kids in detention centers for free, why can't we provide kids in schools for free? It's time to prioritize the well-being of our children, as they need proper nutrition to learn, develop, and grow.
The startling reality is that 35 million children qualify for free or reduced-price meals, yet several miss out due to the stringent qualification processes. According to School Nutrition Association, while over 21 million children receive free or reduced-price lunch, 14 million eligible kids do not benefit from the program due to administrative barriers.
The evidence is clear: well-nourished kids are more likely to thrive in school. Studies published by the Food Research & Action Center reveal that students with consistent access to meals perform better academically, with improved focus and attendance. Eliminating the need for qualification not only ensures no child is left out, but it also streamlines operations, allowing educators and administrators to focus more on teaching and less on eligibility paperwork.
I call upon lawmakers, school boards, and community leaders to make universal free school meals a reality for every child. Investing in our children is investing in a brighter future for all of us. Together, let's urge policymakers to fund free meals for all students, removing unnecessary hurdles, and guaranteeing that every child is fueled for success.
Sign this petition and make universal free school meals a fundamental right for every child from Pre-K to 12th grade.
