The Issue

My name is Vivaan Tiwari, and I am a participant in The Peace Warrior's 2026 Global Youth Program (GYP) Cohort. As a young leader, I believe every child deserves the opportunity to play, grow, and succeed through sports, regardless of where they are born or their family's financial situation.

Today, millions of children around the world face barriers to participating in sports because they lack access to basic sporting equipment such as soccer balls, basketballs, volleyballs, running shoes, tennis rackets, and protective gear. While many young people have access to these resources, children in lower-income communities and developing countries often do not.

Sports are much more than games. According to the United Nations, sports promote education, health, gender equality, teamwork, leadership, and peacebuilding. Participation in sports has been linked to improved physical health, stronger mental well-being, increased school attendance, and the development of important life skills such as communication, discipline, and resilience.

Unfortunately, access to sports remains unequal. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) estimates that more than 250 million children and adolescents worldwide are not attending school, and many communities also lack safe spaces, equipment, and organized sports programs. Families living in poverty often cannot afford even basic sports equipment, making participation impossible for many children with talent and passion.

Organizations such as Right To Play, Peace and Sport, and UNICEF have demonstrated that sports can improve children's confidence, strengthen communities, encourage girls' participation, and help young people develop leadership skills. Equipment donation programs have already helped thousands of children participate in sports, but the need remains much greater than the current supply.

We can make a difference through practical solutions, including:

  • Expanding international sporting equipment donation programs.
  • Encouraging schools, sports clubs, and manufacturers to donate gently used or surplus equipment.
  • Partnering with local community organizations to ensure equipment reaches children who need it most.
  • Supporting governments and nonprofit organizations in building sustainable youth sports programs.
  • Creating community collection drives that allow families to donate equipment they no longer use.

Providing sporting equipment is not simply about recreation—it is an investment in healthier, stronger, and more connected communities. Every child deserves the chance to discover their potential, build friendships, and experience the joy and life lessons that sports provide.

I respectfully ask you to support this petition and help advocate for greater access to sporting equipment for youth in underserved communities around the world. Together, we can help create opportunities that inspire hope, improve health, and empower the next generation of leaders.

Thank you for taking the time to read this petition and for supporting a future where every young person has the opportunity to play, grow, and thrive.
