Dear All

Even in the times of the deadly coronavirus lockdown, a brutal mob lynching of three people in Palghar in Maharashtra has shocked the nation. This is not the first time that India has witnessed a frenzied bloodthirsty mob and many more cases of mob lynching in the last 5 years have marred the nation.

Even to date, the victims of mob lynching namely Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, Pehlu Khan, Tabrez Ansari, Akhlaq and many more still await justice

The Supreme Court of India in its judgment in July 2018 had directed the central government to formulate a strict law against mob lynching in India but there has been hardly any movement by the government in that direction so far. Later in July 2019 the Supreme Court had again issued notices to the Central and State governments and had asked them about the steps they had taken to curb mob lynching.

This is the time we all come together and ask the government of India to formulate a strict law against Mob Lynching. If even during a complete lockdown a frenzied mob can kill three people then it is high time that this mentality of mob justice should stop in India and strict punishment should be meted out to those involved in this heinous crime.

I also urge the Supreme Court of India to again remind the Central and State governments of its direction to formulate a strict law against mob lynching in India and if they fail to comply with the directions of the Supreme Court in a timely manner then action should be taken against the Central and State Governments also.

I request you all to sign this petition so that our voices can reach out to the Government of India and the Supreme Court of India and a strict law against mob lynchings is formulated.
