I am deeply concerned about the transportation policies at Pearland ISD schools, particularly for the elementary schools. Families in our community, including mine, face significant challenges due to the current transportation system. With hazardous roads and a strict no walking, no bike policy, it becomes increasingly difficult for parents and guardians to safely get their children to and from school.

Some families, like mine, do not have the support of a village or extra help when it comes to managing daily school commutes. This lack of support is compounded by the financial burden of transportation fees. Parents who are unable to pay these fees are left in a difficult position, as high school diplomas are withheld until the fees are paid. This creates a cycle of stress and potential academic disruption for our children.

To address these challenges, I urge the Pearland Independent School District to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of all schools, beginning with the elementary levels, to assess the possibility of offering free transportation. Implementing this change would provide a safer, more equitable solution for all students and families.

By adopting a free transportation policy, Pearland ISD will not only promote the safety of its students but also alleviate undue financial pressure on parents. Additionally, it will ensure that all students have equal access to education without the fear of their diplomas being withheld.
