The Issue

Hello everyone,

Recently, the EU voted on amendments 165 and 171 (1308/Article 78).

For those of you who don't know, amendment 165 aimed to ban the use of the words "burger", "sausage", "schnitzel" and "mince" on clearly labelled meat-free substitutes. Amendment 171 was much the same, seeking to prohibit "imitation or evocation" of dairy products. The reason for this is that the animal agriculture industry claims that consumers are confused by said meat- and dairy-free alternatives.

Ironically enough, the animal agriculture industry itself actively tries to confuse and mislead consumers with depictions of free-range and happy animals. Not to mention the introduction of dairy products named "hay milk", "grass milk", "grass cheese" and meat brands like "Happy Lamb" and "Happy Beef".

The truth is that many animals who are raised for food, clothing, etc. are horribly mistreated. Organisations such as "RSCPA" and "Beter Leven" currently offer their approval to areas of the animal agriculture industry that meet a certain standard. These standards, however, are still incredibly low.

Here are some examples:

The quality of life standards for animals are NOT up to standard;

The Animal Agriculture industry is the primary cause of Covid-19 and at least nine other big Pandemics linked to Animal Agriculture;

And the Animal Agriculture Industry including those who put labels on products are misleading and lying to people/consumers.

These practices are happening every single day but the animal agriculture industry covers it up with pictures of free-range and happy animals in a big open field.
That's not very honest and transparent now, is it?
If the animal agriculture industry wants to combat misleading and confusing products, then it's only fair that they are made to hold themselves to the same requirement.

If you agree that the EU should revoke amendment 171 and that the animal agriculture industry should be honest and transparent then please sign this petition.

Thank you in advance!
