The Issue

We urge EBU to disqualify the song of Belarusian band Galasy Zmesta, as it goes against ESC values, namely non-political event.

What is being called ‘parodying songs’ or ‘their own material’ is, in fact, dirty political sarcasm directed against the opposition activists, protesters and their initiatives.

The band’s songs are full of bullying, harassment and hate. They use offensive language.

Opposition activists forced abroad are shown as EU-puppets who escaped shamefully to beloved Europe.

The band has written disrespectful songs ‘devoted’ to brave and famous Belarusians such as Maria Kalesnikava, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Pavel Latushka. In many songs they don’t call the names, but everyone who is aware of what is happening in Belarus can easily read the meaning.

Opposition and those who supported protests (there are famous sportsmen, writers and public persons among them) are called 'dummy'; Participants of local Telegram chats are called moron, and members of Coordination Counsel are addressed as 'vagabonds'.

The group has also written a song on protests in Russia. Protesters are called ‘hamsters’ -- this is a common name-calling for Navalny's supporters used by Russian state propaganda and haters.

As the contest is taking place in Europe we would like EBU to be aware of band’s beliefs on Europe. It is enough if EBU looks at a thumbnail of the song ‘They will help us from abroad’ (Zagranitsa nam pomozhet). This is accessible on their official page. 'Zagranitsa' is shown as a collection of mugs holding a sex doll and a rainbow harmonica.

It would be naive to think that Belarusian government won’t use their performance for the purposes of political propaganda.
Although, the competition song itself doesn’t make much sense to 'uninitiated' audience, it does sound as political slogans and threats for those Belarusians who are fighting against dictatorship.
