My name is Maksym, I am a political refugee from Belarus. Like thousands of others over the past 26 years I had to leave my country in 2011 because of political persecution. I used to call the situation in Belarus a cold civil war. A war the regime wages against the Belarusian people. But it’s no longer cold.

The authorities are using weapons and blood of peaceful protesters has been shed. There have been reported casualties already. It’s no longer enough for the international community to “express deep concern”. It’s no longer possible to talk the dictator into stopping the violence.

I am calling on the European Union to take a decisive action against the Lukashenka regime and support the people of Belarus! Now is the time to prove that the great european values are not just empty words.

I am calling on the EU to immediately impose targeted sanctions against the Lukashenka regime - a travel ban and asset freeze for

• Everyone working for the Ministry of Internal Affairs and their family members
• Everyone working for the KGB and their family members
• Everyone working for the Central Election Commission
• All members of the Belarusian parliament
• All ministers and deputy ministers 
• The heads of regional administrations, districts and cities down to the level of the deputy heads of Executive Committees

In support of my demand I’m going on a hunger strike on August 13 at 10:00 next to The European Commission Representation Office in Warsaw in Jasna street 14/16A.
