First of all, let me start out by saying that there were other issues I had with the treatment of the other animals while at the Fair, but I have no experience with, or any knowledge about the other types of animals and how standards should be set for them, therefore I cannot comment on that.

 HOWEVER, I do have experience and quite a bit of knowledge on rabbits and let me tell you that I was disgusted with what I saw going on with the set up for rabbits. It looked like I had walked upon an abandoned animal hoarder situation. The rabbits were in a small, dirty, wire-bottom caged with no mats, chews, or hay. If you know about rabbits, then you know that wire-bottom cages absolutely NOT okay. Wire-bottom cages are very painful for rabbits and cause sores on their hocks. Rabbits should always have a solid surface to walk or sleep on; not that they had much room to do either. Most cages were coated in dried diarrhea, which because the cages were small, most of the larger bunnies had to continue to lay on the diarrhea coated, rusty wire. The barn they were in was hot and the fans barely did anything. A lot of the rabbits with heavier coats were panting and at risk for heat stroke. I know they were probably panting from stress too, but rabbits are more susceptible to heat stroke than we are. Not a lot of people know that domestic bunnies need to be indoor for this reason. Wild bunnies go out at dusk and dawn when it is cooler. They were hunched and looked afraid from the noise and movement around them.

Rabbits are incredibly sensitive and delicate animals. I know many people scoff and think I am being silly because "It's just a bunny," but please take a second to think about how that is a living being with a heart and feelings.

I believe if the Fair is going to continue to show rabbits that they need to learn more about them and what they need, or stop showing rabbits altogether. There NEEDS to be a change. Please, if you agree and feel that this is wrong, leave a signature and share with your friends.
