Establishing e-scooters in the City of Beaconsfield

Establishing e-scooters in the City of Beaconsfield
Why this petition matters
Petition to the Mayor of Beaconsfield, Georges Bourelle,
Billions of tons of CO2 is launched within the atmosphere every year as a consequence of coal, oil, and gas production, greenhouse gas emissions are produced by human activities at an ever increasing level, with no indications of declining. As a result, temperatures may rise by three or four degrees Celsius by 2100, if we don’t slow global emissions, in addition to inflicting irreversible damage to our ecosystems (United Nations, “The Climate Crisis, A Race We Can Win”).
We, the undersigned residents of Beaconsfield,
Call upon the Mayor of Beaconsfield,
To install shared electric scooters around the city. The first electric powered shared-use scooters (e-scooters) emerged on the streets of Santa Monica (California) in September 2017. By December 2019, fourteen e-scooters companies started in 122 American cities, so why not in small towns like Beaconsfield? Electric scooters would provide an opportunity for the city to attain essential climate change goals. For example, in the cities where this project occurred, there was a tripling in the percentage of trips completed that did not involve the use of an automobile, and climate recovery was shown through the reduction of fossil fuel consumption to half of 2010 numbers (“E-Scooter Pilot Program Evaluation Criteria Public Outreach Summary”). Finally, e-scooters would be a prominent addition to the city, due to the fact that it would motivate numerous people to rarely use their cars and to spend more time outdoors!
From my research, here are the two companies that piqued my interest the most:
