As a Muslim girl who wears a headscarf, visiting the gym should be a comfortable and empowering experience for me. However, each time I walk past groups of men to enter Pure Gym in Oldham, I am met with stares that make me uncomfortable. I know there are many who share my experience, and it's crucial that we take steps to make everyone feel welcome and secure while accessing fitness facilities.

Gyms should be places of inclusivity and comfort for all members, irrespective of their cultural or religious backgrounds. For Muslim women like myself, and countless others who may experience similar discomfort, having a safe and private way to access the facility would significantly enhance our experience.

I am calling on Pure Gym's management to consider implementing a women-only entrance at their Oldham location. According to the UK’s Muslim Women's Sport Foundation, cultural sensitivity in sports facilities can dramatically increase participation among Muslim women. An easily accessible women-only entrance would not only respect our cultural values but also encourage more women to embrace a healthy lifestyle without fear of discomfort or intimidation.

There are affordable and feasible ways to create a separate entrance capable of accommodating women who prefer privacy. By examining successful models in other international gyms, we can easily implement solutions that work for our community in Oldham.
