Establish Vehicle-Accessible Hunting Areas for Disabled Hunters

The Issue

I am a 40-year-old individual living with a degenerative disease. My experience with disability has cultivated a deeper understanding and ardent passion for ensuring recreational activities, like hunting, are accessible to everyone, irrespective of their physical condition.

Currently, I hold a permit to hunt from my vehicle, but the state has made no provisions for me or others in similar situations to feasibly use it. It's striking to see fishing docks established for the disabled but no comparable accommodations exist for hunting. This glaring disparity highlights the urgent need for comprehensive recreational inclusivity and accessibility measures.

The specific proposal I put forth entails utilizing log roads in regions that carry out selective forestry operations. Converting these into food plots and parking spaces will serve dual purposes; it will not only provide physically challenged hunters like myself access to hunting areas but also contribute to animal nourishment. This benefits both wildlife and hunters, ultimately promoting a harmonious coexistence.

Importantly, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) encourages modification of policies, practices, or procedures to ensure disabled individuals can enjoy activities and services offered to the general public. Regrettably, it seems current implementations fail to holistically address our needs.

It is estimated that the number of folks with disabilities in the U.S. exceeds 40 million. Let's make a difference to these lives. Let's ensure those with disabilities aren't robbed of their rights to enjoy recreational activities, like hunting, in its full glory. Advocate for the setting up of vehicle-accessible hunting areas and food plots in your local environs today. Please, sign this petition to create a force of change and make the world a better place for everyone, including hunters with disabilities.
