Establish the Naziyah Harris Protection Law Against Witnessed Sexual Assaults

Establish the Naziyah Harris Protection Law Against Witnessed Sexual Assaults
The Issue
We venture to tell the heart-wrenching story of an innocent young girl named Naziyah Harris, who tragically went missing in January 2024 at the tender age of 13. Naziyah was groomed by a man she, for a dreadful period, believed to be her uncle. Yet, he turned out to be nothing short of a living nightmare. Shockingly, members of her own family were complicit in this grim reality. This poor girl was even impregnated by her abuser, Jarvis, which was again ignored by the very people who should have been her protectors.
The sad reality is that Naziyah's case is not unique. As the personal experience of survivors attests, instances of sexual assault where family members are aware but fail to act are far too common. Young, innocent girls are consistently exploited and victimized by adults, while those who witness these atrocities choose inaction over courage.
To respect the memory of Naziyah and others who have suffered similarly, we must pass a law that holds all those who remain silent in the face of sexual assault accountable. It is not enough to combat the assaulters; we must also prevent the pervasive culture of silence that enables them to continue their abusive patterns.
According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), every 73 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted, and every nine minutes, the victim is a child. Too often, these assaults occur within a realm of absolute silence. We can no longer turn a blind eye to these horrendous crimes.
We are, therefore, proposing the establishment of the 'Naziyah Harris Protection Law', a law that would see those who witness and do not report sexual assaults also charged for their complicity in the crime.
We implore you to sign this petition and bring us one step closer to a justice system that values and protects all individuals–especially those most vulnerable–from sexual assault. Only with your support can we bring about the necessary changes to protect survivors and deter potential perpetrators. Please, sign the petition.
