Thirty-year politicians are ruining our country. Career politicians have become detached from the everyday struggles faced by their constituents. They've become more focused on retaining power and catering to special interests rather than serving the people who elected them.

This trend leads to stagnation, lack of fresh ideas, and policies that fail to address the current needs of our nation. When Congress becomes a lifelong career instead of a temporary period of public service, it results in a lack of accountability and an erosion of trust in our governance.

Establishing term limits for U.S. Congress members would ensure a constant influx of new ideas and perspectives. It would open opportunities for passionate, dynamic leaders ready to challenge the status quo and tackle the challenges of the 21st century. It would drastically curtail the influence of money in politics, as lifetime campaigns would no longer hold sway.

Currently, the U.S. Congress operates without any term limits, a system not seen in the presidency thanks to the 22nd Amendment. Introducing similar limitations for Congress can rejuvenate our democracy. According to a 2018 Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey, 74% of likely U.S. voters supported putting term limits on all members of Congress.

We propose a constitutional amendment to ensure that no senator serves more than two six-year terms, and no representative serves more than six two-year terms. This change would create a balanced turnover, helping to keep Congress aligned with the issues that matter most to Americans.
