Establish Strict Punishments for Assaults on Innocent People

Establish Strict Punishments for Assaults on Innocent People
The issue
I was recently confronted with an unsettling scene while watching Nine News Melbourne: eight 19-year-old boys had unabashedly attacked a lifeguard at a local swimming center in Melbourne. This horrific incident has shed light on an issue that is becoming increasingly prevalent and disturbing. The safety of innocent people, including workers, parents, or children, is being compromised and assailants roam freely without fear of significant consequence.
It is essential that we stand with victims and advocate for stricter punishments for violent crimes like these. According to statistics from the Australian Institute of Criminology, in 2017 alone there were over 8,000 victims of assault (or related offences) in Victoria, demonstrating a pressing need for immediate intervention (source: Australian Institute of Criminology).
By setting a law that ensures any attacker is punished, we not only deter potential offenders but also provide victims with justice they deserve. When we take decisive action and responsibility, we create safer neighborhoods, workplaces and educational establishments where everyone can feel secure.
It's about time we demanded justice, protection, and safety for all citizens. Sign this petition to send a clear message: We will no longer tolerate assaults on innocent people.
Dear Concerned Citizens,
I am writing to bring your attention to a distressing incident that took place recently at a Melbourne swimming centre, where a 19-year-old male lifeguard was assaulted by a group of eight 19-year-old school boys. This appalling act of violence against a dedicated professional is a stark reminder that aggression and hostility have no place in our society, and we must come together to put an end to such incidents.
Lifeguards, like all workers, deserve to feel safe and respected in their workplace. They play a critical role in ensuring the safety of swimmers and maintaining a secure environment for everyone. It is our collective responsibility to support and protect those who work tirelessly to keep us safe.
To address this issue and prevent future occurrences, I urge you to join me in signing a petition that calls for:
1. Stricter penalties for individuals who assault lifeguards and other frontline workers.
2. Increased public awareness about the importance of respecting and protecting lifeguards and their work.
3. Improved safety measures at public swimming centres to ensure a secure working environment for lifeguards.
By signing and sharing this petition, we can send a powerful message that violence and aggression against workers will not be tolerated, and that we stand united in our commitment to creating a safer and more respectful community for all.
Thank you for your support and solidarity in this important matter. Let us work together to ensure that lifeguards and other frontline workers can carry out their essential duties without fear of assault or harm.
Sincerely,
[t.Murphy]
