Establish a Railroad Quiet Zone at Jahnke Rd and Bassett Ave

The Issue

How many times has the train horn impacted your daily life? Such as having to stop mid-conversation with a neighbor or while on a work call because a train was blaring its horn. Or keeping the windows and doors closed on a beautiful day while working remotely, entertaining, or while the kids are napping to help reduce the noise impact.

The loud noise pollution of trains in our neighborhood at all hours of the day and night has become a “norm” because we believe that this is what comes with living near train tracks. But there is another way! Cities across the U.S have established Railway Quiet Zones and installed Wayside Horns at railroad crossings in residential areas.

Quiet Zones are stretches of railroad running through residential areas in which trains are limited in sounding their horns.

A wayside horn is a stationary horn mounted at a railroad crossing, rather than on a locomotive, to deliver a longer, louder, more consistent audible warning to motorists and pedestrians while eliminating noise pollution in neighborhoods for more than 1/2 mile along the rail corridor. (from Quiet Zone Tech)

Join your neighbors in an effort to make our neighborhood quieter and more peaceful. Let your City Council member know that you agree with the statement below by signing this petition in support of the Quiet Zone and Wayside Horns. Now is the time to make your voice heard because, at long last, the City is finally starting the Jahnke Road improvement plan!

"I support the establishment of a Quiet Zone, also known as a reduced train horn area, along the stretch of railroad that includes RR crossings at Jahnke Road and Bassett Avenue. I also support the installation of Wayside Horns at both of these crossings to help keep motorists and pedestrians safe and reduce noise in our neighborhood."

Please forward this to anyone who needs to see it.

THANK YOU!
