The Issue

The nation was shaken when Charlie Kirk—a free speech advocate, father, and political voice for millions of young Americans—was tragically shot at Utah Valley University. His life cannot be remembered in silence. His legacy must live on through the generations of young people he inspired to believe in a stronger America. This petition calls upon legislators across the United States to establish October 14th, Charlie Kirk’s birthday, as a National Day of Remembrance. Let his words and example continue to echo in the hearts and minds of future Americans.   Common Questions

Why October 14th and not September 10th? October 14th was Charlie’s birthday. Many national observances honoring individuals are tied to their birthdays. September 10th, by contrast, falls immediately before September 11th—already a National Day of Remembrance. Two back-to-back observances would risk diminishing the meaning of both. Why not a federal holiday? A federal holiday would mean schools and businesses closing, but Charlie Kirk himself valued hard work and daily responsibility. In addition, the second Monday in October is Columbus Day, which sometimes falls on October 14th. Federal law does not allow two holidays on the same date. A National Day of Remembrance, like D-Day or Patriot Day (9/11), avoids these conflicts while giving the nation a meaningful way to honor Charlie Kirk’s legacy.
