As a proud owner of a flag football league and father to talented daughters who play, I see firsthand the passion, skill, and dedication these young women bring to the field. However, despite their commitment and talent, there is no avenue for them to compete at the varsity level in our state of New Mexico. This petition seeks to change that.

Flag football is not just a game; it's an opportunity for young women to showcase their athletic abilities while learning critical life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and discipline. Yet in New Mexico, girls are denied this opportunity at the varsity level.

According to USA Football, flag football is one of America's fastest-growing sports with over 6 million participants nationwide. It offers an inclusive environment where athletes of all sizes can excel based on agility and skill rather than size or strength alone.

Moreover, introducing flag football as a girls' varsity sport could open doors for scholarships that can help them pursue higher education. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has recognized women's flag football as an emerging sport since 2020 - meaning colleges across America are now offering scholarships for female athletes excelling in this sport.

By recognizing girls' flag football at the varsity level in New Mexico schools we would provide equal opportunities for our female athletes while promoting diversity within sports culture.
