We speak on behalf of those who, like us, regularly travel between Mallorca and the North East region of England. The cessation of direct flights from Newcastle to Palma Mallorca during the winter months, from end of October to April, severely disrupts our lives. It leaves many of us feeling cut off, upending our travel plans, and costing us unnecessary hours and resources on indirect flights.

Adding to the personal inconvenience, this dearth of direct flights can impact the local economies. Mallorca, known for its touristic appeal, experiences reduced influx from an area that typically brings a significant number of tourists.

The CAA Air Traffic Statistics show that North-East England had 952,697 international air passenger journey travels in the month of October alone (last available statistics, 2019). This evidences the high demand for international travel within the region, a portion of which could be passengers seeking direct flights to Mallorca.

In a time where connectivity is more important than ever, it is essential that we address this lack of efficient travel routes. We call upon airlines and related decision-makers to re-establish direct flights from Newcastle to Palma Mallorca during winter months.
