Establish an Official “Anti-Hate Crime Awareness Day” in New York & New Jersey

The Issue

Why This Matters:

New York and New Jersey are among the most diverse states in the country, home to people of every religion, ethnicity, and culture. Despite this, bias incidents and hate-motivated behaviors continue to threaten the safety and well-being of residents. Educating the public and advocating for tolerance reduces bias and prevents hate crimes.

Our Request:

We respectfully urge the Governors and relevant city councils to establish an annual Anti-Hate Crime Awareness Day. This day should:
Educate the public about bias incidents and hate-motivated behaviors.

Promote tolerance, inclusivity, and understanding across all communities.
Highlight challenges faced by groups disproportionately affected by bias.

Include workshops, panels, lectures, and campaigns in schools, universities, libraries, religious institutions, community centers, and public spaces.

Impact of the Day:

Educational programs for students and community members of all ages.

Community workshops and panels to empower residents to prevent bias incidents.

Public awareness campaigns to foster inclusivity.

Overall, help prevent hate crimes through education and advocacy.
