The Issue

Our city of Enterprise, Alabama is overpopulated with animals, and the current vet clinic, which should be a place of healing, tragically becomes a kill facility due to lack of space. It is heartbreaking to witness so many innocent animals lose their lives simply because they are invisible to the community and don’t have a proper facility to take refuge in.

How many more animals must suffer before we take action? In a city that prides itself on progress, it is unfathomable that we have not yet prioritized establishing an official animal shelter—a place where animals can be seen, loved, and given a chance at a new life. A proper shelter is not just about saving the lives of animals, but it also presents a significant opportunity for community engagement and education.

An official animal shelter would allow citizens to visit a centralized location to meet adaptable animals, volunteer, participate in educational programs, and encourage responsible pet ownership. Statistics show that cities with comprehensive animal shelter facilities witness lower euthanasia rates and foster a stronger bond between citizens and their pets.

By supporting this endeavor, we pave the way for a compassionate community that values the lives of our four-legged residents and ensures their stories are heard. Enterprise is a city of innovation and change; now is the time to reflect those qualities in how we care for our animals.

Sign this petition to urge city officials to prioritize the establishment of an official animal shelter in Enterprise, AL. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of countless animals and enrich our community.

Responded
This issue was recently discussed during our City Council work session last Tuesday. Meeting comments will be available once posted on the City’s website at Enterprise City Council here: https://www.enterpriseal.gov/government/city_council.php At this time, the City has not appropriated funding for the creation of a new shelter. That said, it remains on our list of priorities as we look at future planning and budgeting. In addition, Coffee County is currently considering establishing an animal shelter. If they move forward, the City of Enterprise is actively exploring a partnership with the county to meet the needs of our residents. I appreciate your concern for animal welfare in our community, and I encourage you to stay engaged as these discussions continue. Respectfully, Eugene Goolsby District 2 City Council, Enterprise
