Establish a White Coat Ceremony for Decker School of Nursing

Establish a White Coat Ceremony for Decker School of Nursing
The Issue
As passionate students of the Decker School of Nursing at Binghamton University, we are reaching out with a heartfelt request. My name is Sophia Ditta and my peer, Ashley Barran came to the realization that our esteemed institution does not host a White Coat Ceremony for nursing students. This revelation was deeply disheartening for us.
The White Coat Ceremony embodies a significant rite of passage in the healthcare profession, symbolizing the transition from student to a practicing registered nurse. Celebrating this ceremony would be a profound way to honor the commitment of future nurses.
Currently, numerous nursing programs across the country, including SUNYs, have embraced this tradition to underscore the respect and responsibilities associated with being an BSN RN. We believe it would bring a great sense of pride and motivation to the students at Decker School of Nursing.
We are requesting Dean Ortiz and the administration to inaugurate a White Coat Ceremony at the Decker School of Nursing. This can be achieved through collaborative efforts between faculty, student organizations, and alumni associations. By integrating this ceremony into our program, we can foster a deeper connection between students and the esteemed profession of nursing.
We urge our fellow students, professors, alumni, and community members in Binghamton, NY, to support this initiative. Your signatures will not only lend weight to our appeal but also emphasize the value of commemorating the beginning of a lifelong journey in healthcare. Please sign this petition to help us make this important ceremony a reality at Binghamton University. It'd be greatly appreciated and we believe it would make a greater impact if signatures were present.
