The Issue

I've noticed first-hand that the presence of large trucks dramatically obstructs traffic flow on Landing Lane, especially where it intersects with Easton Avenue in New Brunswick, New Jersey. As a local resident, I witness daily disruptions as these large vehicles slow down commutes, create bottlenecks, and contribute to a frustrating experience for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.

Beyond just slowing down traffic, these heavy trucks are likely a significant factor in the increased occurrence of potholes on Landing Lane. The excessive weight continuously borne by this road is visibly wearing it down, and as a result, the road is riddled with dangerous potholes that not only require frequent repairs but also pose safety risks. Potholes can lead to accidents and damage to vehicles, further impacting the community and economy through vehicle repairs and wasted time.

It's essential to address this issue urgently. A restriction on truck traffic on Landing Lane could alleviate these problems. Instead, rerouting trucks to more suitable thoroughfares with the infrastructure to handle heavy traffic would lessen wear and tear on Landing Lane. This action could enhance safety, reduce repair costs, and significantly improve the quality of life for all who travel this route daily.

The community of New Brunswick and its surrounding communities deserve a traffic system that works efficiently for everyone. Therefore, I urge Mayor Jim Cahill and New Brunswick city officials to consider implementing measures that either ban or significantly reduce truck traffic on Landing Lane. It's time to make our roads safer and more efficient.
