This petition advocates for the development of a new skatepark facility in Barton that will serve diverse communities including BMX riders, skateboarders, roller skates, and scooter enthusiasts. The proposed facility will be enjoyed by people of all ages, from young children to older adults, as well as parents and partners who will have the opportunity to watch their loved ones participate in this healthy activity.

The establishment of this skatepark would have significant positive impacts on our community, including:

•  Mental health benefits through physical activity and social interaction

•  Financial advantages for both residents and local businesses, including increased custom for local cafes and shops, and increased usage of local fuel stations

•  Reduced travel expenses to facilities in other towns

•  Improved sports health and fitness for participants of all ages and abilities

 

We are creating this petition to demonstrate the community's support and backing for this initiative, which we will present to North Lincolnshire Council.

The current skatepark in Barton has several limitations that restrict its accessibility and usability:

•  Restricted opening times that limit when people can use the facility

•  Design that is not beginner-friendly, discouraging new participants

•  Location within secondary school grounds, which creates discomfort for adult users (particularly grown men) who must access the facility

 

Examples from other communities demonstrate the positive impact of skateparks:

•  In Carbondale, the local skatepark has been described as "exceptional for town business," attracting regular visitors who support local establishments³

•  Well-designed skateparks and skateboarding events attract visitors, stimulate local businesses, and boost tourism while cultivating entrepreneurship through skate shops, schools, and events that provide opportunities for small businesses⁵

•  Research shows that skateparks raise quality of life in the areas they serve and allow youth to recreate close to home, creating desirable neighborhoods and incubating a sense of community pride⁹

•  The Factory Skatepark in Dundee, Scotland, has over 25,000 registered users and annual footfall of over 100,000 people, demonstrating the significant draw such facilities can create¹

 

We believe that by working together with North Lincolnshire Council, we can develop a great park that will serve generations of people in our community, providing a safe, accessible, and welcoming space for wheeled sports enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels
