As a parent with children attending BASIS Primary - Medical Center Campus in San Antonio, TX, I have personally witnessed and heard countless stories of traffic concerns that have been close calls to a student having major bodily harm. This is not an isolated issue but one that affects many families who send their children to this school every day.

The lack of a designated School Zone for our school has led to numerous near-miss incidents involving our students. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that from 2006-2015, there were 301 school-age children (18 and younger) killed in school transportation-related crashes (NHTSA). While we are thankful none of these tragedies occurred at our campus, it is clear the potential danger exists. 

We also must be aware that our school was established in 2017 and San Antonio has experienced an exponential rate of growth not only in the Medical Center but our greater San Antonio community.

We need the city officials to recognize this pressing issue and take immediate action by establishing a formal School Zone at BASIS Primary - Medical Center Campus. This will ensure every child & their family feel safe traveling to/from school each day.
