Establish a Pelican Crossing on a Busy Road in Gloucester

The Issue

Each day, school children, the elderly, local residents and disabled individuals brave a gruelling journey across a busy road in Coopers Edge Brockworth without any pedestrian crossing. This places our most vulnerable population in unnecessary danger. The absence of a crossing is indeed personal to many in Coopers Edge including myself, as we worry daily about the safety of our children and elderly while getting to school or simply crossing the road.

The need for action is clear when we observe the alarming global statistics. According to the World Health Organisation, more than 60% of global deaths are among vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists, etc. In the UK alone, the Department for Transport reported that an average 20% of accidents occurred on roads without pedestrian crossings.

Our urgent appeal to Gloucestershire County Council Highways is to install a safe, easily accessible pelican crossing, securing the safety of our children, seniors, and disabled members of the community. Their safety should be of utmost importance in our community planning. It's crucial we act swiftly to prevent any potential accidents and make the road safer for all.
